The Yankees are wasting little time with off-season wish list this season signing Brian McCaan and now Jacoby Ellsbury.
It's true folks, Ellsbury has gone from the dark side to the Empire (thats my little knowledge of Star Wars).
Jon Heyman first reported the news this evening and Mark Feinsand confirmed that the deal was done and was pending physical. The deal that is agreed on is a seven year deal worth $153 million.
Jeff Passan indicated on Twitter that while the Yankees are signing Ellsbury, it does not exclude them from signing Cano. Although I have my own theories on being able to retain Cano at this point. He still wants over $200 million at 9/10 years and truthfully, he's a great player but if its really about money then the Yankees should look elsewhere for a second baseman.
Two big name free agents and yet the winter meetings haven't even started. I would say the Yankees are looking quite good for the long run.
Stay tuned as this offseason is getting interesting very fast.
told Ellsbury deal with Yankees will "above Crawford." $150M is a fair estimate. will give yanks dynamic lineup top.— Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) December 4, 2013
The Yankees' deal with Ellsbury is done, pending a physical. I'm told the contract is bigger than Crawford's 7 year/$142M deal.— Mark Feinsand (@FeinsandNYDN) December 4, 2013
