Wow, the Yankees wasted little time securing one of their biggest needs this offseason....signing catcher Brian McCann to a 5 year $85 million dollar contract with a vesting option for a sixth year that will make the deal worth $100 million.
What started as a quiet Saturday quickly turned into an exciting day for Yankee fans. Hal Steinbrenner has kept his word on building a contender and he delivered the first piece. Is the next piece Carlos Beltran? Maybe...
The soon to be 30 year old, leaves his home town and only team he has ever known, Atlanta. I guess he wanted a taste of the New York winters.
Bringing in McCann solves several key issues surrounding the catching position. He brings a power bat, the ability to play multiple positions, but he will be the everyday catcher with Cervelli/Romine spotting him a few games, great attitude in the clubhouse and will be a great teammate.
McCann will thrive in New York with the short porch in right.
Evan Grant, a columnist for the Dallas Morning News first broke the news this evening that the Yankees and McCann were closing in on a deal.
