According to, the Islanders are attempting to lure Kirill Petrov away from the KHL and bring him to the NHL as soon as his contract expires with his KHL team.

There's a catch always.  The Islanders are reportedly trying to convince Petrov that he is guaranteed a roster spot if he comes over to the States.

This kid is 23 years old and has never proven himself in the NHL yet and to guarantee a spot for unproven talent is absurd.

I understand that if he had been playing in Bridgeport for the last few years and he was lighting it up there, then he could be considered for a spot with the Islanders. Folks, you don't just hand unproven talent a spot in the hopes he changes his mind about playing in his home country.

More on this as the story develops.
