With the NHL free agency only open for a few minutes, the Islanders wasted no time in securing goaltender Evgenin Nabokov to a 1 year $3.25 million dollar contract.

This signing is a no-brainer for the Islanders as they have two unproven goaltenders in the system who are not quiet ready to take on the job full-time.

Nabokov is obviously not getting any younger but he did lead the Islanders to their first playoff spot since 2007.

Hopefully, Garth Snow will sign a reliable back-up goalie as an insurance policy to Nabokov.
