What started out as a slow day in the neighborhood, quickly took a 360 spin when Bob McKenzie of TSN sends out a tweet saying the Islanders are working on a deal with the Washington Capitals to acquire Jaroslav Halak.  Talk about a deal that just made Garth Snow look like a genius if he is able to sign Halak to a deal.  Believe me, I am not a Garth Snow fan but I have to admit being able to get Halak for a 4th round pick this year is a steal.

The deal in essence is the Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Peter Regin trade the Islanders made during the season.  The return price for the two players was a fourth round pick.

Getting Halak is huge as it would solidify the goaltending for years to come.

Halak’s numbers last year between the Blues and Capitals in 52 games- 29-13-7 with a .921 SV% and a 2.25 GAA.

As Arthur Staple pointed out on Twitter, Halak is absolutely interested in signing long term with the team. That according to Halak’s agent Allen Walsh.

If this gets done, Garth Snow is a genius and like I said up top I am not a fan of Snows.

Stay tuned this off-season is heating up!
