First things first...WHOSE READY FOR SOME HOCKEY!? I know I am!

So lets preview the most anticipated game for the New York Islanders since the final game of the year in 2007. Since then, there hasn't been much excitement until this past off-season, when the Islanders drafted John Tavares from the London Knight of the Ontario Hockey League.

And now, the Islanders open up the 2009-10 season against the Defending Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins.

This season, there is so much hype surrounding the Islanders and the "future" of the team. One thing that Islander fans can look forward to is seeing the #1 overall pick, John Tavares, dazzle the league as he has done at every level of hockey he has played.

Ok, now on to the game.

Besides John Tavares making his NHL debut, he makes it against Sidney Crosby and the Pens. The Pens, like the Islanders, were in the same exact situation not too long ago. Both teams were looking for a new refurbished arena, both teams were decimated by injuries and both were horrible for the latter part of the last few years. That was until the Penguins went to the Stanley Cup Finals the last two years and then won the Cup last year. So the question remains will the Islanders be this years Penguins?

Ok, so we know that this game is one for the ages! John Tavares vs Sidney Crosby

But, let's also look at another significant event that will happen either this coming week or on October 3rd. It is the decision that Kate Murray, the Town of Hempstead Supervisor, will make on the Lighthouse Project. With Charles Wang and Scott Rechler having the approval from the state, county, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Works, the only thing that's holding this up IS Kate Murray. Wang and Rechler have a new lease deal in place for the Lighthouse, with the current lease on the current arena being negated by the new one. So if the Lighthouse doesn't go through, Wang is free to talk to other cities for a possible move. But I am not looking that far in advance. We still have the whole week to get an answer from Kate Murray.
Until then, have a great week and enjoy the Home and Season Opener. I'll be back during the week with updates.
